Coastal Living, Big Sur

Check out this story in Coastal Living that I did about a year and a half ago.  Sometimes stories don't run for a long time, for whatever reason.  It's on the shelves now, pick it up yo.  Coastal Living, September.

This house was insanely beautiful -and that view?  shut the front door.

These shots were taken by David Tsay, styled by yours truly.

The house was redesigned by Carver Schiketanz.  They do crazy good work.  But I just came in and added accessories, rearranged the composition for the camera, added flowers, food, shoes, etc.
Yep. it was like a treehouse.  Read the story and it gives more info on the architecture.  It was somebody stupidly famous, but my little brain no remember details so well.
That's it folks.  It was a beautiful house, and the setting was sick.  And this was just the guest house on the property. The main house was being redone by the same firm as we shot there and it was  - i mean - there are kinda no words to describe how big and awesome it was.  But this was more bungalowey and more my style.  On the same property there was the kids house.

Yep three houses on this huge plot of land on the cliffs in big sur.  It was such a fun 4 days.  Brian was my assistant and we were put up at this AWESOME hotel, which i'll get the name of, and ate at all the best restaurants in big sur.  Sorry, i hate it when people brag about their jobs, but this one was particularly braggable.

  1. Wow, and that's just the guest house?

Brag away, Emily. Your work made it all look even better, I'm sure. Look at that deck with the stunning view, and that green and white bathroom tile? Lucious! I'll look for the issue on the newsstands!

  3. How funny, when i first started reading, I thought this looked familiar... Because it is! I worked at Carver + Schicketanz and got to spend some time at this house. I agree, beyond amazing! Wasn't the silk carpet in the bedroom to die for? I wanted to sleep on it, forget the bed. I love Big Sur... Did you eat at the Big Sur Bakery? What a fun job you have! :)

  6. Hmmmm, what are the chances I could just move in to one of their houses and they'd never notice? I'm thinking the kids' house. I mean, I could probably convince them I was a ghost, right? You know, 'cause that's not at all scary. Boo.

  9. This is a comment for HGTV: Put Emily's show on Comcast OnDemand like Design Star! I was expecting to see Secrets of a Stylist OnDemand after work on Monday, and was so disappointed! I love Emily's blog and her work. It also isn't available on the HGTV website or hulu. Definitely staying up on Sunday night for this week!!

  10. When I got mine in the mail I died over that view!! Is it real? Great job on this. I loved it.

I hear ya above about Comcast On Demand! I'm a tired mom and have missed your show (but I love the images I've seen flying around blogville). Maybe my cheap butt just needs a TiVO.
