Rose Bowl Sundays = Flea Market Find Mondays.
This might be a new Monday thing since I flea market every weekend and I like show and tell a lot - not in a weird way, just in a 'look at my pretty things' kinda way......which is actually kinda weird now that i think about it.
I love me a landscape watercolor. You know it. $20 and about 10x14"
Ethereal, moody yet totally in my color palette and with a ton of age and character.
I shall frame promptly.
Check out these bad-boys. They are old brass English measurers for whey or hops for english beers. They are hand-welded and totally imperfect. I love that they have a modern silhouette, and act as a grouping of sculptures, but are old and could be functional as well.
They will go either in my shelving or just on a console as a grouping. If i feel crazy i might just put branches in the tallest one. who knows. i'm totally unpredictable when it comes to foliage.
looky at the little stamped measuring details on all of them. these were $90 for the six. I know. it was a splurge but I love them very much. They catch the light so perfectly and make a huge statement without being gaudy.
I love an extendable lamp, $30. From the 70's. In brass. Lord how I am obsessed with the 70's.
Perhaps its because I was made in the 70's.
Does that make me vintage?
Wait, does anyone know the guy at the L.A. flea markets that was a hoarder and now is trying to get better so he is selling everything, but before he sells each item he takes a picture of you with it?
he's awesome. And then he hoards the picture. I'm not kidding, which actually makes a lot more sense.
I find it so strange, but incredibly sweet at the same time. I imagine him just flipping through the pictures on a Saturday night, reminiscing on each glass bottle or silver pencil cup, hoping that it has a good home now and fantasizing that they will meet again.
I thought he wanted a picture of me because of DS and SFAS, but nope, he had no idea who i was (as it should be), just wanted one last memento of his lamp.
Let me know if you guys are into Flea Market Find Mondays.
I always like to know what people are buying so i can either scoff at them or envy them, but if you guys don't have the same neurosis, then i won't subject you to mine.
the lamp is awesome :)
ReplyDeleteI'm totally jealous of your brass measuring thing-a-ma-jiggers...what are they again? Doesn't matter, they are awesome, great find!
ReplyDeleteI love the idea of Flea Market Monday - only because we have ZERO flea markets on AZ and I just need to live vicariously through other people. Please please please continue :)
Love the Flea Market Find Mondays idea! Please keep it up! I bought a cute red side table at a local flea market this weekend that I'm in love with. :)
ReplyDeleteHe takes pictures. So sweet.
ReplyDeleteBaby steps, I guess.
Yup, me too. Love the idea of seeing your finds. Weirdly enough, I get almost as much joy seeing what others find, and especially what they do with their finds. I am so loving that lamp, wishing I had it above my bed for reading.
ReplyDeleteLove Flea Market Find Mondays! What a great way to start a Monday morning!
ReplyDeleteYESSSSS flea market finds are so good. Except spark lots of jealousy. The lamp is AH mazing.

I love the idea. It would make my Mondays a little brighter to have something so fun to look forward to!
ReplyDeleteI love the FMFM too. Please keep it up. There are no good flea markets in my area either so I can daydream about yours :) Is that weird??? Sorry....
ReplyDeleteThe lamp is completely amazing! What a great find. :)
ReplyDeleteLove this idea Emily! I'd totally give my right arm to live near the Rose Bowl flea market, so living vicariously through you will have to do for now!

ReplyDeleteI absolutely love flea market monday's and being thrifty! The last time I went, I got 2 pillows (that look identical to ones from UO, but are actually vintage) for $10 and a cowhide rug!
ReplyDeleteSo fun!

from a fellow made-in-the-70's gal, LOVE FMFM.
ReplyDeleteYes please to Flea Market Mondays.
ReplyDeleteThey will be part of my balanced breakfast.
Lady, I am digging this feature. But I have to know: do you do the same flea markets every weekend? Or do you mix it up? I am trying to find the right flea-ing sched, because obviously too often and you've seen it all already, and not often enough and you are missing the good stuff. We need your expertise. Teach us, sensei.
ReplyDeletewho needs therapy when there are flea markets, thrift stores and garage sales?
ReplyDeleteheck yes keep posting your finds!
Love the idea for Flea Market Find Mondays! I have been wanting to go to the Pasadena Flea Market since I moved here (I just moved from utah with my husband). Maybe I'll run into you one time! :) PS If you ever need an intern for anything than blogging (I have blogged for years, but don't know the techie part of it) but im an avid thrifter and love design (my mom was an interior designer) I would love to help! I'll run your freaking errands for you! :) I live in Orange County so I am close!
ReplyDeleteI dig Flea Market Mondays. It helps me see how to notice pretty things. I pass over so many things when I shop, so seeing what you think is lovely helps.
ReplyDeleteYes, I'm loving the Flea Market Monday idea too! I'm always curious what other people (especially chic designer celebrity types like yourself) are buying and bringing home. I'd love to hear more flea market tips, tricks and how you barter too. I just scored some cool wooden shoe lasts and vintage camera at the Santa Monica flea market two weekends ago. I wish we could all show and tell! Can't wait to see what else you pick up next week!
ReplyDeletevery much like.
ReplyDeletei fleamarketed like crazy this weekend! 2 on W 25th, Hell's Kitchen and UWS Green Flea. i suppose i'm not crazy in comparison with some other people... I got an old drawer that used to belong to Yawman & Erbe fishing reel company, a stainless steel mesh purse, a number of postcards, and a map of the world in 1883 during the age of New Imperialsim. this chica is happy.
ReplyDeletewould you suggest custom framing the map? it's 26 x 17''... not a regular size.
LOVE this IDEA!!! Going to the Long Beach Flea this weekend..will you be there? I have found sooo many cool things there, one of the best markets out there. Keep sharing...LOVE your style!!!
ReplyDeleteI love Flea Market Find Mondays! I was just at Brimfield Antique Show and got so overwhelmed by all of the possibilities. It's fun to learn what your more experienced eye would seize on.
ReplyDeleteBring it on. Love the idea.
ReplyDeleteLove it.
ReplyDeleteI miss the Rose Bowl Flea Market sooooo much. I bought the coolest stainless steel dresser that used to be used in San Deigo hospitals. It has a million coats of chipping paint on it and someday I have plans to have it stripped and poly'd to it's original steel finish.
I like the idea!
ReplyDeleteumm, Em? there certainly seems to be a consensus here!! Unanimous... (Hooray!)
ReplyDeletei love looking at what someone else choses for a flea market buy-
ReplyDeletekeep showing the stuff!!!
I give a show twice a year and you might like it. It is called Remnants of the Past, www.remnantsofthepast.com. It is coming up on Oct. 2nd. Come visit! :) Judy
ReplyDeletetotally into it!
ReplyDeletedying over those brass cylinders.
dying.
please proceed with show and tell. gives hope to the rest of us who live in suburbia and "flea market finds" are more like - decrepit newspaper clippings from last year.
ReplyDeletenew to your blog and love it. can't wait for your show! i enjoy your sass.
Love this idea! I am obsessed with Flea Markets. Please keep it up!
ReplyDeleteI like it...and I love those Brass English Measurers? My husband owns brewery restaurants and I am partial to all things beer:)
ReplyDeleteI'm lovin' Flea Market Mondays! I've never been good at picking stuff out that can actually be used. You have no idea how your photos and thoughts inspire me to do better at these things! You totally make me smile!
ReplyDeleteConsidering I'm always at the Rose Bowl Flea Market I LOVE IT!!!
ReplyDeleteLove flea market Monday! Your finds are great - especially loving the lamp.
ReplyDeleteI love flea market monday! This past Sunday was Coburg oregons anual antique fair. Over 100 vendors displaying all thier goods. I got a great little table snd mirror. I even didn't mind walking them home, in turns, 4 blocks. I thought of you while I was there and thought, "Emily would love this!"
ReplyDeleteFlea Market Find Mondays is right on. I'm thinking I'm gonna have to start Goodwill Goodness or something on my blog...
ReplyDeleteLove the watercolor. Landscapes are a weakness for me.
Those brass English measures -at first, I thought they were gigantum bullet/missle castings? ;D.... They're soo worth the splurge esp. in a grouping like that! I've seen just the tallest -somewhere in the East coast, for the same price verses the set! That lamp is just waay too cool!!
ReplyDeleteOh dude, brass! Currently looking for a small brass floor lamp with an industrial vibe. Loving that blue grass cloth, btw.
ReplyDeleteI wish I lived somewhere with great flea markets! I guess I shall live vicariously through you...I love those brass thingies!
ReplyDeleteYes, I love the Flea Market Mondays idea! You should try going to the Long Beach Flea Market next time. It is mostly the same vendors as the Rose Bowl but the prices are much cheaper. It happens one week after the Rose Bowl. I love seeing what other people buy at flea markets.
ReplyDeleteI dig the FMM. Perhaps the memory of it will inspire me to actually leave the house before 3 on the weekends. (The lure of the farmers market just isn't getting it done) Lovely finds!
ReplyDeleteKeep it coming: I love the idea of Flea Market Mondays. Do you really go every Sunday?
ReplyDeleteYes! Love that lamp even if it is brass :)
