Warning:  don't read this unless you feel like getting real real sad right now.  no sarcasm, i'm totally serious.

I just had one of those incredibly shaming moments.  I was annoyed that brian didn't tivo Real housewives of DC and  in a bad mood 'cause of some stupid work shit, when i checked in with a blog that i had neglected for a while.  I get behind on reading some because i'm busy being some sort of reality non-star and blogging and tweeting like a middle school girl that just became popular.  I hadn't been to the blog Holding Court in a couple weeks and was shocked to read what happened.  I don't mean to bum you out, but if you are needing some humbling - like me, read the last post.  He broke it to her many readers in what is the most devastating post of all time.  I don't know this person at all, but I loved her voice, wit and style.  My god, i'm so sad for them.  is this really how life works?
I know it seems like a super depressing thing to post, but i can't be the only one that needed to be reminded of how good i have it.
You can read what i'm talking about here

I must go now and hug Brian.
Sorry.  but perspective just slammed into my face.  real hard.

  3. Dear Emily:

I have been lurking since DS started this season. I'm not a designer just started watching HGTV since I was in the market for a home and wanted to see what was out there about homes, design, etc. (I bought a house recently and am working with a fantastic interior designer who is part psychologist and part wonder woman, among other qualities...lol.)

And, so, I came across your blog when watching DS for first time this year. Don't know about prior years but it looks super challenging and definitely pushes everyone to their maximum tolerance and even over the edge too from the things I've seen on air and blogged, commented about.

From the first I was struck by your authenticity (I really was quite intrigued by the string art in the white box challenge) from the start and had to come out of lurkdom to say how poignant and real this particular article is and of course the blog article you referred us to. Now that's reality, harsh reality.

Anyway, I wish you best of luck in REAL life and in, *fingers crossed*, a REALITY show. Whatever the future holds, one thing I'm sure of is that you'll bring joy, genuineness and a zest for living life to its fullest to those who are fortunate enough to be in your circle of influence.

Thank you Emily for keeping it R.E.A.L.

    Warmest regards from a fan

  4. The Holding Court blog wasn't one I was aware of until a few weeks ago. It's just so tragic. There are no words.

  7. Ugh. Off to plan a special dinner for my favorite person on earth, my husband, during which I will hold his hand and tell him how very much I adore him and appreciate him. So, so sad. Frightening it can happen just that quick and then life is never the same. My thoughts and prayers are with their family. :(

  8. I just discovered your blog today and am happy to. Stumbling upon this post shed a special light on my day, some perspective as you say. I'm however still in shock from the read... Thank you isn't really the word but I guess you see what I mean.
