Wooh, I'm back and almost fully recovered.

yo yo yo.  i'm back.  Woah, that was a rough couple days.  Besides interviews, i kinda just checked out of life.  I've never been so exhausted in my life, strike that, since my honeymoon.  It's weird how your body knows when you were stressed even when you don't feel stressed.  I had the most low-maintenance wedding ever (we literally had a taco truck cater it) but still i must have been exhausted because i slept roughly 16 hours a day on our honeymoon. And that is pretty much what I did this week, too.  I feel better and ready to roll.  ish.

I'm working on the new blog (or should I say, somebody else is, to be disclosed soon***update, don't worry it will remain the same, run by yours truly, i just want it redesigned and updated, all fancy-like), web-site, interviews, you know, general 'taking-over-the-world-and-building-my-empire' stuff.

Kidding, well kinda.

The outpouring of support has been overwhelming and so appreciated.  I'm just so happy to know that people (not all, mind you) wanted me to win and are excited for my show.  I promise it will be unlike any show out there, ever. (aka, the fashion to home thing has been altered to create a more original show....curious, eh?).

Secrets from a Stylist airs this sunday at the same time slot as Design Star - 10pm/7pm.  Just a reminder, which i'll probably do everyday until sunday.

photographs are styled by me, in my apartment, and shot by Terilyn Fisher

I heart all of you so much.

    This is only the beginning!
Are you not going to be able to do your blog as it is?
Will the "new" one be an HGTV thing?
Do you have to give up yours?

  7. I remember reading about the taco truck at a wedding. Wonderif it was yours and where I read it. I thought it was so cute. I love weddings and how they can be personalized.

    Good luck.

  15. Sister, at you least have an excuse to sleep so much. Personally, I'd spend most of my day in bed if I could. Kinda like Kramer in that bathtub epi of Seinfeld, I feel like I could be even more productive in my bed, then well, anywhere else. Sigh. What the chances HGTV would have a show based on THAT? I'm just sayin.

  16. I just showed my husband the light fixture in the top picture. As I mentioned in a previous post, it was a former fixture of ours back in 1972 except ours was clear and black plastic. Hard to believe those lights are still floating around lol.

I have a question about your new show. Will it always be an hour show or just the premere show? Just need to state once again on how thrilled I am that you won.

  17. You take alllll the time you want - I know how that post-whirlwind exhaustion goes. I can't WAIT for the premiere!

  18. Emily, you are all charm. I have no doubt that you will be to HGTV everything and more that Candace and Genevieve are now. I'm looking forward to the new show, and expecting it to be a huge success. It took a long time for me to warm up to Antonio, but I now realize that the judges were right about him; he is a total original. And the judges were right about you too. Be bold!

Congratulations, Emily! You have such a beautiful way of expressing yourself - so refreshing and genuine with a sweet charm. I was rooting for you from the beginning of tuning into Design Star - there is something very special about you for sure. Very excited to see what you are going to do in the future as well as learn from you. My prediciton is that you will be as big as you wish to be - for me though, I love seeing how you pull things together in such clever ways. You are Brilliant! Yes, Brilliant! Cant' wait to see what you do next. Best wishes to you in living your dreams!

  25. Emily I have been reading your blog and went into the archives. I really love your blog. Your personality speaks through your writing, so you are also a very good writer. You are brave and unafraid to be who you are. I have a blog for my photography and wish I was as good a blogger as you- ha ha! I can't wait for your show to start because I feel you are exactly what HGTV needs, something fresh. They picked you with good reason. Please keep your awesome fun personality in tact as you rise to the top! Thanks for being you.

  26. Congratulations. I started reading your blog only a few weeks ago, but was immediatly swept up by your style. It's as if you are able to photograph a world I envision but haven't got the vocabulary to express. But you do - in spades! As Tara Booze said, you are exactly what HGTV (and the rest of us) need! I look forward to years and years of Emily's style!

  27. And, BTW, some of us over 40 but under 50 are deeply jealous of everyone who gets to apply to be on your show - guess I'll just have to watch and take notes (dramatic deep sigh)

  28. At the risk of sounding like a weird stalker person, we should be friends. And not just because you're about to take over the world (which you're totally about to do). Because you're awesome and I like you and I think there's a chance you might like me. But this isn't about me. It's about you winning DS and being all kinds of fabulous. You were my favorite from the beginning, so I was super jazzed to hear your name called. Congratulations, and I'm stoked for Sunday's show.

P.S. I teach cooking classes, so if you ever want to do a little old school bartering, I'll teach you to cook if you make my house look awesome. You know, when you're not being a superstar and stuff. Can't say I didn't try.

I hope it will be just like you on Design Star, only better! :D I am really glad you have a blog too! I plan on reading it all! Love you girl! Wishing you all the best! :)

  40. I *just* finished watching the finale, and I had to congratulate you.

The judges made the right decision. You bring something new and likable that I hope people respond to. I realized early on that I wouldn't particularly care to see a show starring any of the other designers.

  41. I loved the glass room you designed, just beautiful. Congratulations, and I will be watching your show!

  42. Emily, I'm getting psyched for your show Sunday night. Can't wait. I just bought a new house in Florida and need those "Secrets" to style my house.

Glad your getting your much needed rest.

HGTV is one of my 'favorited' (is that a word, lol) channels and I'm glad you'll be in the line up...something to look forward to and when your show gets to re-runs, it'll be exponential F.U.N.

  43. Hi Emily - love the styling in your apt. Having grown up in the Pacific NW and two adult kids that live in Portland, I see bits & peaces of NW style in your work. I adore your eclectic style, just keep the inspiration coming. I among the many am ecstatic you have your own HGTV show. We were cheering you on from Houston!

I'll be tuning in & wishing you all the very best Emily xx

  44. Loved that you won DS. Well deserved & I really look forward to seeing your show. Styling is a huge weak spot so I hope to learn a lot.

  45. I can't wait for your new show. You have inspired me, since the start of DS, to search for beautiful vintage pieces to create a more warm and welcoming space that suits my personality. I've been to two auctions and found amazing deals on incredible vintage pieces. THANK YOU for the inspiration Emily!!!!

  46. I could not have been more happy when you won. From the very first episode, yes the one where you gave a quirky review of your own white box, I hoped you would win. Not because you were the underdog - but because I could tell you had talent. And I liked your personality a lot. And I thought you were genuine, quite more genuine than some.
