First of all thank you, thank you, thank you for all your comments. And thank god for this blog that allows me to see them. I get so critical of myself when I watch the show (aka, i wasn't psyched about my hosting) and accidentally seeing a few comments on the HGTV facebook page wasn't awesome - i'm really shocked how nasty some home and garden viewers can be. It's so weird to be exposed to so many people and left completely open for criticism, but you guys make me feel good and it counteracts all the meanies out there. Truly. (and the always-smarter-than-me Brian has forbidden me (again) from reading any comments other than those here - but its just so tempting.)
I had a crazy nutty shoot yesterday. We had 30 people here for a RUE magazine entertaining story. It was hectic, but totally fun and the images are awesome. My apartment is approximately 46 square feet so having that many bodies was wacko jacko. and now it looks like crazy town. Poor brian.
I have to rush out to work, but I should have my post up by this afternoon, so check back by. Sorry for the delay, i hate it when my real life interferes with my reality life.
Champagne problems, people. Champagne problems.
Oh geez, don't read those - it's truly awful what anonymous people will say - thanks for having a sense of humour about this whole thing - I think if you don't, it would be tough to survive - anyway, can't wait to see you as the Design Star!
ReplyDelete"Nasty home and garden viewers." Words I never thought I'd see together. It's kinda funny, right? Who are they? I wish HGTV would do a survey on them and find out more about these perpetrators!
ReplyDeleteI know, I have been SHOCKED at how mean and nasty HGTV viewers can be! Which is funny, because if they are so smart and know so much about design, how come THEY aren't on Design Star or writing design blogs or whatever? Another thing that has really surprised me is how crude and foul-mouthed people in the home and garden field can be!? Present company excluded of course, there are design/decorating blogs that have completely disgusted me with their language and cruelty. I guess I naively assumed that everyone who worked in your field would naturally have style and class, lol. Anyway, you did a great job on the last challenge! That chandelier was so creative, and the drapes were very pretty, too. Can't wait to see next week!
ReplyDeleteYou should read Roomfu's recap of this episode though...she declares you the winner and her favorite! And some of the comments follow my thinking that you are much prettier and attractive than Casey by a long shot so I don't know what that "bombshell" comment was all about. She's pretty enough but not exciting and seems pretty straight-laced and just a tad boring. And you are much more enjoyable to watch as a host than she is.
ReplyDeleteA great segment. This was a challenge you aced. Check out how much you are loved:

Congrats...you earned it Emily!
Oh, btw...never read those comments from HGTV viewers. Some people on that website are down right nasty and nobody needs that in their lives.
ReplyDeleteYou were the hands-down winner in my book! I panicked a little when they showed you gluing silk flowers to the shade, but then you painted them white - genius! Is a champagne promise like the "pie-crust promise" in Mary Poppins? "easily made, easily broken" ? :-)
ReplyDeleteAnother Emilyism.....champagne problems. I love that Emily. Can I copy? Loved you in this episode, painting those silk flowers on that cardboard box all white and then hanging it as a chandelier. Stacking all that dump junk and painting it.......loved it! IF you're not the chosen one then those judges need to be judged. I will volunteer. I never say this because I am over the age of 50 but You Rock!
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to see the Rue photo shoot! I hope you follow your husband's advice and avoid reading any unpleasant comments floating around out there. Who knows why people take the time to leave such unhappy commentary... I don't get it. In other news, loved your wallpapered cabinet! :)
ReplyDeleteThe papered cabinet is my favorite with all the objects glued together. It looked amazing. Great job!
ReplyDeleteWhat I love most is that you are being completely true to yourself on DS. No airs, no attitude and your design is great considering the stupid challenges you've had....
ReplyDeleteThose comments on the HGTV blogs are so awful! I've been tempted many times to reply to them with arguments based on info from here, but then I worry that they'll find your blog and post nasty comments here.
ReplyDelete"Champagne problems"... true for most of our easy little lives, eh? As others, I probably will steal that.
What gray did you end up choosing for the shoot?
In some random fun news, due to your blog, my preschooler now refers to Nina as Nina The Shark. I kid you not. Is it wrong, probably. Is it freakin' hilarious!??!!? No question. At least I hope he means her since my name is Nina too...
ReplyDeleteI saw that, too. People can be so idiotic, cruel, and downright STUUUPID. People on HGTV.com are so boring and mean. A majority of the comments I read say "All of the designers were so ugly and the men contestants are gay, blah blah blah." What the crap? You know what people? Has anyone been taught to not judge by looks, beliefs and sexuality, but by personality and character? Sure, you don't want to have an ugly host (I don't mean you, Emily. You really are beautiful.) but if it really matters to you that much then you need help! Either don't watch the show and just be grumpy about it, or watch it and actually see what it's like. A couple of my friends complained on last year's choice - I finally showed them the show and now they're watching it every single day! You can never judge a book by it's cover - you need to open it and read it before you do that. I'm glad you don't care about those people as they aren't any better or powerful than you. Stay strong Emily and hope you do well in your new show!!!
