Style stalking....Scott Horne

Oh look who's popped by.  Why if it isn't Scott Horne and his portfolio.  He's one of my very best friends in the world. And an awesome stylist.  You might recognize  his work most from Blueprint magazine, or practically all Proctor and Gamble ads (all the good ones).  He's kind of the best.

Really??  Well, that would be lovely.  Scott has graced us with an interview, everyone.  How special.  i'll play 'me'.

Me:  Hi Scott.
S:  Hi.
Me:  So I see in  your portfolio that you styled a shoot with Laura and Jenna Bush. how great!!!
S:  uh, yea...
Me:  did you make any bush jokes?
S: no, i try to not talk politics at work.
Me; no, not Bush, stupid.......bush...
S: stop.
Me:  she's pretty hot though, huh?
S:  which one? and it doesn't matter i'm gay.
Me: yes, gay for jesus, who isn't?
S: this is annoying.
Me: No, but seriously would you do her?
S: fine, you're a child, but i'll play along, which one, Laura or Jenna?
Me:  gross.   you're really sick.  (Ahem) Regardless.  My readers are always asking me as a prop stylist how do I keep it all together?  How do I balance work, my maid, my multiple full bank accounts, etc, etc, etc, etc.  I guess what i'm asking is:  are you team edward or team jacob?
S: oh, this.    right. fine.   will you make fun of me if I answer?
Me: if you answer jacob.
S.  wow. did you get your interviewing skills from Cheney? this is stupid.

here i go a-stalking....again. my friend Jen.

Stylist, photographer and fashion designer, Jen Gotch is one of my favorite friends in L.A.   and she's no phony, like those people who call themselves "writers" and "actors" without ever having written a word or acted in anything...ever, NOT EVEN TAKEN A CLASS!!!  breathe..breathe...

Her new years resolution 2 years ago was to start and finish every creative idea that she had, and she did.   woah. that year my resolution was to floss, and I didn't.   So now she shoots instead of styles (she'll style her own shoots sometimes unless I have the privledge), and she has a getting-more-successful-everyday fashion accessory line, worn often by Zooey Deschanel and Taylor Swift, called ban-do (pictured above and below- and she's not alone, she has a partner, Jamie, and a team of worker bees).

I used some of the hair accessories and corsages for a few portraits by my friend, photographer Patrick Miller.  Brian looks adorable, but I don't think I was Patrick's best muse as i'm not sure what my face is doing, and i'm pretty much squeezed into that dress,  and... is that a slight lazy eye?!!? but the thing on my head looks rad, a la Carrie.

styling stalking, Sibella Court

I have many stylist crushes.  Their work creates tantrums of envy, and after I cool down I put most of what they do up on my inspiration board.  Sibella Court is one of them.  Her new book Etcetera is ridiculous - looks completely effortless, beautiful, soft, organic.. or at least what i've seen of it.  Need to buy.  Anthropologie sells it much cheaper than Amazon, fyi.

Her web-site is rad and she sells weird things...in australia, unfortunately for us. Those Aussies  are kicking our arses as far as shelter magazines these days and I can see why.  Here's her store:  www.thesocietyinc.com.au   It changes themes 4 times a year, different inventory, different merchandising, products from local Aussies and around the world.

Cindy DiPrima, Part Deaux

Really quick: These are some of Cindy Diprima's interiors. I don't know who shot the first one, sorry, anonymous talented photographer. A pine cone has never looked so pretty. Very often when a client asks for pine cones for fall shoots, one gets scared knowing that almost ALWAYS pine cones look like poop, literally. You try to convince them that we should maybe paint them white or perhaps bring other options, and inevitably you don't end up using them because, again, they look like feces. But not this one, nope. It just looks rad.

Also, I know for a fact this story was shot 7-8 years ago, way before 'all-things-antler' were hot, and it still stands up as just a pretty wooden sculpture. Timeless, considering these are adorning the walls of many-a-trendy restaurant in most urban city in the U.S. right now (which doesn't bother me, by the way, i'll take old-timey taxidermy to pretentious lounges any day).

Annie Schlecter shot the 'dresser' story for Domino in a brownstone in Brooklyn.   The blue velvet chair in the second dresser picture is from Ochre, and the moroccan rug from is from ABC Carpet and Home (I'm pretty sure, although it was 6 years ago).
I'll take one of each please.
The 'mother and daughter' story (also for Domino, huge sigh..) was shot by Francois Dischinger, who is one funny mo-fo.  I especially love the impact of the branches - so much bang for your buck.  And that wire chandelier is so quiet, but makes the room.  Whoever says white is boring needs to check themselves.  This is totally classic.

Cindy DiPrima

It's seems sacrilegious to go on about my style without giving props to Cindy DiPrima, my boss (and friend/mentor, etc) for the four years that I assisted. Lucky lady was I.

These are some of her newest still lifes of perfume that I think are ridiculous. I want to smell like how these pictures look. They were taken by Kana Okada, who is also young and amazing - don't get me started on her.

And no, I'm not just shilling for my friends, if someone tortured me into giving up the names of who I really thought was the best in the business, these two names would be on top of the list.
